City United Tryout Attendance Reaches All-Time High

On November 27th, more than fifty players in the  Pittsburgh Soccer Community gathered on a day of diverse weather at local Riverview Park for a chance of being on the Pittsburgh City United Football Club for the upcoming spring season.  Spirits were high and the competition was sharp as players attempted to make impressions on the coaching and talent evaluation staff.

"Really nice turnout today, we are very happy with the quality of the players that we are getting in as well," said player Kakakou Fotie. "I can remember when we had the first tryout for the team we only had about 7 players, now today we have about more than forty guys. "

The coaches began their assessments with a series of small sided games that eventually lead to larger 11-a-side games with 3 teams rotating on and off the the field.  Aside from the damp cleats and heavy shirts, the players were able to walk away with lots opportunity to showcase their talents.  After the tryout, Director of Football Dante Nicholas let players know that in the upcoming week they would be notified if they were selected or not selected to come and trial with City United.

"Overall, I thought there was a lot of talent to select which is good problem to have as a coach. We simply want to make sure we can identify all the talent that there is in Pittsburgh as our overall goal is to give these players the platform in order to push on to the professional level," said Nicholas.
